Yeah – I won a set of steak knives, a salsa maker & a 2 night hotel stay. All I had to do was watch a demo of a Health-Mor Filter Queen air filtration system. The system is 2 air filters and a vacuum (which is not a vacuum). The demo was pretty good at making our Dyson seem deficient- really grossed me out! Hubby decided to buy the system for a price I am not willing to mention! I guess it’s a medical device so we might be able to write it off… Used the “vac” today & the floors look & smell clean! Been running the air filters since last night – not sure what to think. I’ll keep you updated on how it works (or doesn’t). That was one hell of an expensive set of steak knives!

What a Mommy Does

Taking my kiddos to the mall today for a playdate, I started looking around at all the mommies with their kids and eavesdropping in on what they were saying. Where would any of us be without our mommies? We wouldn’t know that it is a good idea to go potty before we get in the car or sit down to eat. We wouldn’t know how to get dressed or velcro or tie our shoes. We wouldn’t know how to say “please”, “thank you”, or “excuse me.” We wouldn’t know that it is best to take a rest from all our play and just lay down for a minute (or hopefully 2.5 hours!). They say no one goes to college in diapers or with a pacifier, and it’s true – thanks to a mommy! So, to all you mommies out there, I noticed the hard work you were doing today! And to my mommy, thank you so much for all the thankless work you did when I was young!

Scheduling in Fun?

Whatever happened to sleeping out on the deck, eating ice cream for breakfast and spending all day on the lake? Now I’m in charge of 2 kiddos, a dog, and a household! I’m happy to just get a full night’s sleep! I don’t mean to whine, but being a grown up is way overrated. Of course, I wasn’t that fond of being a teenager at the time, either. But looking at my life and the way I miss my days gone by summers got me thinking. Did I forget how to have fun? Am I too wrapped up in keeping schedules, making sure everyone is fed & dry & clothed? My friends tease me that I like to play games with the rule book in hand. Perhaps I just need to take a deep breath, relax and play. Maybe my responsibility/play scale is a bit off balance. So, tonight maybe I’ll sleep out on the deck or eat ice cream for breakfast tomorrow.

Laundry Room Project

Our laundry room project is coming to a close now. Jason and Jim have been hard at work framing, drywalling, painting, hanging cabinets, laying the floor and installing the sink. Did I mention countertops and and a backsplash? How about trim? I’m so happy that it is finally done! It really looks fantastic and I feel more organized, even if I haven’t filled the cabinets yet. I did hang may design inspiration, though – a picture of blue jeans on a clothesline. And laid down the rug Grandma Betty gave me 2+ years ago. Feels like a cozy space to fold laundry in!

Potty Training

We just finished potty training Whitney. We used an intense 3 day method that was absolutely fabulous. No tears, no fits, no frustrated mommy. Now she’s fully potty trained and it really only took 3 days. I’m so glad my friend Megan suggested it. I feel richer – no more size 3 diapers for us!
